// We are Le Club Suburbia

Le Club Suburbia brings you obscure yet superfresh music from the underground. Ranging from psychedelic post-hardcore to protopunk!

We are Le Club Suburbia…

…a concert programming group in Amsterdam, organizing most of our events at a venue called OCCII, just southwest of our city’s centre. Our aim is to provide a stage and hospitality for non-commercially touring bands and to select the freshest sounds of the underground.

In all honesty, our concerts are set up quite far away from what might be called Suburbia, especially the one portrayed in Penelope Spheeris’s 1984 film, whose name we adopted for our activities. Suburbia, then, must be taken metaphorically: we organize shows for bands that just won’t make it (yet?) to the bigger commercial venues you’ll find closer to or within Amsterdam’s grachtengordel.

Call us romantics or naïve; we focus on bands and music that, until a couple of years ago, could rightfully be filed under indie. Indeed, processes of gentrification are not only going on in real estate, but also in music: indie is now a genre, an aesthetic adopted by major labels (just like in cinema: what does the name Warner Independent Pictures even mean?). You’d almost forget that there are still truly independent and stimulating musicians out there!

At Le Club Suburbia, these are the artists you’ll find on the stage, those innovative musicians who, without the support of a lot of money, drive around the continent in a van, playing music ranging from dirty punk rock via psychedelic post-hardcore to danceable loops… We’ll combine them with a local act or two, let our resident DJ R-Nasty spin the wheels of steel and have ice cold Urquell beers in the fridge. Do come around sometime!

Facts:
- In even more honesty, our friends in Stockholm (Sweden) started booking shows under the moniker Le Club Suburbia since 2002, we started in 2005.
- We’ve never been there and we’re unconnected, but there’s a Club Suburbia in Bucharest (Romania).

We enjoy and appreciate the following activities and initiatives throughout town and advice you to do the same:
