XML-RPC
Last updated: 16/10/2007 02:31
XML-RPC is a protocol that helps you to update your site from within a third-party application.
This way you can post to your site from within Flickr, or update your site using a desktop application like Windows LiveWriter (PC) or Ecto and MarsEdit (MAC). This can be handy if you're on the road, and don't have access to internet all the time, or if you want to update several sites using one application.
How does it Work?
If you've found a xml-rpc enabled site or application, often it can determine the right settings automatically. Just provide your url.
If this is not the case, here's a full list of the settings:
Api/XML-RPC entry point:
http://www.widgetwell.com/api/metaweblog
Protocol:
MetaWeblog enabled
Optionally, you can also use our Blogger Api, but MetaWeblog is preferred
Blog-id:
Some services ask you to fill in your Blog-id, but there's no need to do this, because WidgetWell handles this automatically. Just fill in a 1.
Username & password:
These are the same as your widgetwell username and password.
Example: Flickr "Blog This"
Flickr can also communicate with WidgetWell, though the same protocol. This allows you to create blog posts with images and post them to WidgetWell, directly from the Flickr site!
- Log in to your Flickr account, click on one of your photos and click "Blog This".
- You'll get a notice saying you haven't configured any blogs yet. Press the configure link.
- From the menu select "MetaWeblogAPI enabled blog" and click "next".
- For the Api endpoint, fill in: http://www.widgetwell.com/api/metaweblog
- Fill in your WidgetWell username and password.
That's it! Now you can blog from within Flickr.
Let's get going.
